Gatorade is a homogeneous mixtures because it isn’t uniform in make up. B. Gatorade is a homogeneous mixtures because it is uniform in make up. C. Gatorade is a heterogeneous mixtures because it is uniform in make up. D. None of the above

C=0 H=none Bell Work Week 6 11/27 David said that water can be created in a lab by burning hydrogen gas in air. He said that water is not a compound, because only hydrogen is used to make water. What is wrong with David’s statement? A. A compound only contains one type of element. B. Hydrogen is made up of two different types of atoms. C. Water was not the product formed when he burned hydrogen. D. Compounds must contain two elements, and oxygen from the air was what combined with hydrogen to make water.

Solution is another name for what type of matter? A. element C=0 H=none Bell Work Week 6 11/28 Solution is another name for what type of matter? A. element B. compound C. homogeneous mixture D. heterogeneous mixture

C=0 H=none Bell Work Week 6 11/29 Muddy water is an example of what type of mixture? A. colloid B. solution C. suspension D. homogeneous

Video Notes: SC.8.P.8.5 Today I will identify evidence about mixtures by creating a three tab foldable and taking notes from a video. So that can explain what a solution is. Recognize different between colloid and suspension. Determine the difference between a solute and a solvnent. I know I have it when I have completed my foldable. I can answer my exit question with 100 percent accuracy.

Champs Concept Map C= 0 While creating the 3 tab foldable (2) During discussion with group H=ask 3 before me A= Three Tab foldable and notes M=none P= (1)Looks like students taking notes and filling in foldable with text evidence and video evidence. (2) Roll dice challenge with in group. (3) Rally Robin Wait for each question to be presented and test each other. S=Check for success

Solution What two components consist in a solution? Solute and solvent What is a solvent? The substance in which a solute dissolves What is a solute? The substance that dissolves in a solvent Between solvent and solute, which one is displayed in the greatest amount? Solvent What is a good example of a solution? Salt being the solute and water the solvent Why does salt represent a homogeneous mixture? It blends to the point in which it is barely visible

Suspension What is suspension? A mixture of water and non dissolved substance. What is an example of suspension? Oil and water because oil floats to the top.

Colloid What is a colloid? Substance remains dispersed and doesn’t settle at the bottom. What two components does it contain. Dispersion medium and dispersion phase. What type of colloid forms from emulsion? Milk Why is flour and water mixed a colloid? When both are mixed they don’t settle out.

Which of the mixtures is heterogeneous mixture?

Video mixture vs. solutions https://www. youtube. com/watch 1. What is a mixture? Two or more substances that don’t chemically combine. 2. What is a heterogeneous mixture?  is simply any mixture that is not uniform in composition 3. What are some examples of heterogeneous mixtures? Cereal with milk, trail mix

4. What is a solution? It’s uniform in appearance and chemical ratio is the same. 5. What do you call this type of solution? Homogeneous 6. What are some examples of solutions? Gatorade, sugar and water, soda

7. What is a solute? Substance that is dissolved in the solutions. 8. What is a solvent? This is the substance that does the dissolving. 9. Provide an example of a solvent and solute forming a solution. Salt the solute dissolving water the solvent.

Which of the mixtures is a solution (homogeneous?

Which of these common substances is a homogeneous mixture? A. pure water B. table salt C. whole milk D. maple syrup

Which of these substances is an example of a solution? A. milk B. brass C. mercury D. concrete

What is a homogeneous mixture? A. a mixture that is the same throughout B. a mixture that is made up of one type of atom C. a mixture that is made up of one type of compound D. a mixture that cannot be separated through physical changes

What is true of all mixtures? A. All mixtures are made up of compounds. B. All mixtures are made up of elements. C. All mixtures are made up of atoms. D. All mixtures are made up of colloids.

Assume water and other substances are mixed to form a solution, a suspension, and a colloid. Which type of mixture contains the largest particles? A. colloid B. solution C. suspension D. All particles are the same size.

Which of these statements best describes the liquids? A. Both the liquids are suspensions. B. Both the liquids are solutions. C. A is a suspension, and B is a solution. D. A is a solution, and B is a suspension.

Video Notes: SC.8.P.8.5 Today I will identify evidence about types of tools that separate mixture by answering questions . So that can explain what the role of different tools play based on the mixtures properties. I know I have it when I have answered all questions with 100 percent. I can answer my exit question with 100 percent accuracy.

SEPERATING MIXTURES page 338 1. What do individual components of a mixture keep? They keep their individual properties. 2. How can you separate particles of different sizes? Filtering can remove larger particles from the mixture. 3. How can you separate mixture with a magnetic property? You can use a magnet to attract the metals out. 4. If you have a solution such as salt and water in a solution, how could you separate them? You could evaporate the liquid out.

Roll It 1 ask 2 a question from notes. 2 tries to answer it, if 2 doesn’t answer go 3 or 4. If either person answers it correctly they may roll the dice for points. Keep track of your point. Winner receive a ticket. Each person presents a question.

Plan it! Match the Right Tool for the Job Page 338 MIXTURE Tools: Components and how they are separated; Sand and iron fillings Salt Water Muddy Water Magnet- The magnet would attract the iron filling from the sand Hot plate- As the water is heated it will evaporate leaving the salt behind. Filter- As the water runs through the filter the larger particles will be trapped in the filter

Video Notes: SC.8.P.8.5 Today I will identify about various mixtures during an investigation. So that can identify either homogeneous (solution), heterogeneous, colloid and suspension. I know I have it when I have answered all questions in my lab report. I share my findings with my partner or group. I can answer my exit question with 100 percent accuracy.
