Out of approximately 400 species of sharks, only four have been involved in a large number of deadly attacks on people. 1)Great White 2)Tiger 3)Oceanic Whitetip 4)Bull At close range, sharks can use their lateral lines running along their sides to FEEL movement in the water. Sharks generally rely on their sense of SMELL to find prey. It can detect one drop of blood in a million drops of water. Tiger Shark Sharks, like cats who also see well in the dark, have a mirror-like layer in the back of the eye. This helps them SEE in dark waters. Sharks have TASTE buds in the mouth (not in their tongue, as humans). Great White Shark Sharks have good directional HEARING. Pores on top of a sharks head are the only external evidence of its ears.

The TIGER SHARK is not a picky eater. Nuts, bolts, and tennis shoes have been found in their stomachs. Sharks vary in their diets, but they are all carnivores (meat-eaters). Fast-moving hunters Swift, sleek predators that eat fish, squid, other sharks, and marine mammals (like sea lions, seals, and smaller whales). Slow-moving hunters Some bottom-dwelling sharks are slow- swimming predators that crush and eat shellfish (crabs and clams) from the ocean floor. Filter Feeders Some large sharks are filter feeders that sieve tiny bits of plankton and small animals from the water through their gills as they swim with wide-open mouths. Sharks can detect electricity, which is emitted in small amounts by every living animal. This sixth sense is called ELECTRORECEPTION.
