Students will explore various types of literature while developing their ability to write and speak effectively. Students will develop critical thinking and reading skills by working collaboratively with peers. Literary Elements Figurative Language Poetry Writing MLA Format Course Materials: Grading Scale 1 ½-2 Inch Binder 5 Tab Dividers 3 Hole Notebook Pencils **Supplies are due Tuesday, September 4th** A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F Below 60 **Student grades are available via SV Portal. I recommend checking grades weekly.** Homework Policies It is the responsibility of the student to write assignments in his/her planner on a daily basis. All assignments will be posted in the classroom. Students are expected to review material regularly and to study for upcoming quizzes and tests. Incomplete assignments will be worth zero points. Late projects will be deducted one letter grade for each day that they are late.

Students have one day for each day they were absent to make-up missed work. After that day, any missing assignments will be entered as a zero. Citizenship Expectations 1 BE RESPECTFUL 2 BE RESPONSIBLE 3 BE READY TO LEARN A classroom atmosphere of mutual respect and kindness is expected and anticipated. Students should know and follow all classroom and school rules. Consequences may consist of warnings, time-out, phone calls/e-mails home, and/or disciplinary referrals to the office. If your child is being bullied, please report it to the school immediately. Bullying will not be tolerated.
