Presentation transcript:

Standards of Measurements Essential Question: What do scientist use to measure?

International System of Units (SI Units): Standard system of measurement used world wide.

SI Continued… Temperature is measured in K (Kelvins) A unit of measurement that is obtained by combining other units is a derived unit.

Length Distance between two points. EX: Meters, inches, etc…

Volume The amount of space occupied by an object. Expressed in L, cm3 , mL etc..

Mass Amount of matter in an object. EX: Grams Fun Fact:

Density Mass per unit volume of a material.

Time Interval between two occurring events. (seconds

Common SI Prefixes

Activity Find your sole mate. Work on the measuring activity with your sole mate. When you are done please take a seat at your assigned seat. DO NOT TALK TO A FRIEND OR YOU WILL LOSE YOUR OUT OF SEAT PRIVLIAGES.

Find the Measurements For Name:_____________________ Directions: With your sole mate you will go around the classroom and measure the items listed on this page. (Use a meter stick if needed or a regular size ruler.) Paper clip: Text Book: The Door: The Board: Your Desk: Yourself:
