Some General Rules The genitive singular of nouns is written –ī The genitive singular of adjectives is written –iī E.g. nūntī industriī of the industrious messenger The nominative plural of both nouns and adjectives is written –iī
The Vocative Case Case of direct address Usually the same as the nominative, except: masculine nouns of 2nd Dec.:-us -e fīlius and proper names in –ius form: -ius -ī meus = mī (pl. meī) Adjectives in –ius = -ie Often used with the imperative mood
Examples of the Vocative Case Mārce! Mark! (Marcus) Amīce fīde! O faithful friend! (Amīcus fīdus) Cornēlī industrie! O industrious Cornelius! (Cornēlius industrius) Fīlī mī! O my son! (Fīlius meus)
