Lab Report Sections In which lab report section(s) would the following sentences best belong? In future experiments, automated marker placement should be used to reduce the error. The specimens dropped from 5.5 feet above ground. The variability seen in the failure modes suggests that the samples contained different compositions. The resulting fracture lengths are shown in Table 3. Then, the following section contains the results of the optical testing. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the sanitizer concentration needed to kill 99% of germs on a surface.

Answers Conclusions Experimental Methodology Discussion (possibly In future experiments, automated marker placement should be used to reduce the error. Experimental Methodology Discussion (possibly Summary & Conclusions) Results Introduction All suggestions for future improvement belong in the conclusions. This is a procedural point (and is obviously such, since empirical values would not be identical) and so belongs in the experimental methodology. Explaining the significance of the data occurs in the discussion (though it may be repeated in the summary & conclusions). Data are presented in the results section. It is somewhat rare that a table will be needed in the discussion. The introduction contains the “roadmap” to the rest of the report. The purpose statement can occur in two places: introduction or summary & conclusions. Introduction/ Summary & Conclusions
