Module 5 - Functions

5.1 Equations in two variables: lines on the coordinate plane: (x, y)

Use graph paper…you can always graph something to help you understand it! If a student is ASKED to graph something, then there better be a graph in the student’s answer!

Draw the graph of y = 4x – 6 and tell if the point (-1, 2) is a solution to the equation.

5.2 Representing Functions A function is a set of ordered pairs in which each x – value is paired with exactly one y – value. (each number in the domain, is used only once) Whenever there are two points on the graph that create a vertical line, it is NOT a function.

Tell whether this pairing of numbers represents a function Tell whether this pairing of numbers represents a function. Explain your answer.

Find the solution for a pair of functions.

5.3 Sequences

This is on Page 139, #25

Module 6 – Linear Functions 6.1 and 6.2 are using the intercepts. The x – coordinate of this point if always 0….x has not gone to the left or right. Only y moves up or down. The y – coordinate fo this point is always 0…y has not moved up or down.

Slope – Rate of Change of “y” with respect to “x” It is the change/movement in y OVER the change/movement in x. Change in y Change in x Hint: label every table with x and y first!

Find the slope of this function

For your test…. Write tables Draw graphs Write your own equations first, then find equivalent forms of it. Ask yourself, ‘is this answer reasonable?’ Plug given numbers in, work the problem to find correct equation/function. When you find an answer, plug it into the original problem.

Be Proactive Set aside time everyday to study. Go to bed ON TIME…do NOT come tired. Eat. Do NOT come hungry. Do all the practice assigned. Watch videos. Break up the study time… 20 minutes at a time, several times is better than two hours and being too tired to focus!

Homework Finish the packet Answers will be posted so you can check how you are doing. Email your teacher will questions AFTER you have looked back at notes and watched videos.
