Presentation transcript:

What is transport? The process by which substances (CO2 , O2 and H2O) move into or out of cells or are distributed within cells. In more complex organisms, a circulatory system may transport substances.

Transport in Animals Can you describe transport in an ameba?.

Ameba –takes in H20 by osmosis and must be pumped out by contractile vacuoles.

Can you describe transport in hydras?

Hydra –Materials pass from cell to cell by diffusion through endoderm & ectoderm.

Can you describe transport in a grasshopper?

In a grasshopper –open circulatory system passes into sinuses from a tubular heart. Blood is colorless, does not carry O2. Sinuses are open cavities between tissues.

Can you describe transport in an Earthworm?

Earthworm has a closed circulatory system similar to humans Earthworm has a closed circulatory system similar to humans. Blood contains Hemoglobin which carries O2.

5 Aortic arches pump blood to capillaries where diffusion into cells takes place.
