Mistakes

Careless Computation Precision Problem Solving Types of Mistakes Wrong number, did not follow directions Computation Adding, subtracting, dividing, multiplying incorrectly Precision Work was too messy, dropped a sign, forgot ( ), missing units, lack of labels, incorrect notation Problem Solving Not following the algebra rules, failure to complete all the steps, not showing thinking for each step

Correction Procedure On a separate sheet of paper Write the problems and question Write AT LEAST two sentences explaining your error AND what you needed to do to correct it. You must write ENOUGH to prove that you understood your mistake Show ALL work to correct the problem Include the correct answer

Correction Examples Example 1: I made the mistake of adding first instead of multiplying. I need to follow order of operations. I will multiply 5 x 3 then + 2 = 17

Example 2: 131 + 14 = 271 131 + 14 ------------- 271 131 + 14 = 271 131 + 14 ------------- 271 I did not set my problem up correctly. I should have lined the ones column up- lining my numbers up by the right side and not the left. 131 14 ------ 145

Example 3: The mailman has 3 hours to complete his mail route. It takes him 30 minutes to deliver for each town. How many towns can be accomplish during his shift? 6 Sentence: I made a problem solving error because I JUST wrote the answer of 6. Although the answer is correct, I did not include my work or a unit. Since the mailman takes 30 minutes per town and there are 2 – 30 minute times periods in an hour, I took 2 X the 3 hours to get 6 towns. The answer is The mailman can accomplish 6 towns during his shift.
