Available Options Handout has AP and Honors courses for 2018-2019 Examples of dual enrollment courses taken this school year by DCHS students
AP & Dual Enrollment Classes Provides more rigor that will challenge and prepare your student Shows colleges/universities that your student is motivated and capable of handling the rigor 5 points added for AP (taken off for HOPE calculations) 3 points added for Honors (taken off for HOPE calculations) College credit added to college and high school transcript for dual enrollment courses
What’s different? Honors and AP classes are more demanding AP classes are similar to first year college courses Students are asked to read and write more Students must learn to evaluate and critically analyze material
Rigor vs. Final GPA Many colleges and universities are more interested in students who take a course load that has academic rigor than one that has a 4.0 GPA without any rigorous coursework Not only is rigor what the post-secondary schools are looking for, rigorous courses will help prepare you for success at the college level.
