Know Your Church Know Your Church Who are we? Review the History Full Church Assessment Where do we need to go? --Becoming a Healthy Church

First Step in the Transition needs to be Assessment We must know our starting point by defining our current reality

Is the church the kind of church it will take to reach our kind of world?

Church Assessment Building a Pastoral Profile -- What Strengths are needed? -- What are the expectations? -- What are the challenges?

Church Assessment Lifecycle of a Church Plateau Maturity Decline Growth Drop Out Refocus THAT A CHURCH MUST BE ALERT TO THESE DYNAMICS AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION. THIS TAKES DISCIPLINE, BECAUSE USUALLY THERE ARE NO OBSERVABLE SIGNS THAT SUCH AN EVALUATION OF IT’S MINISTRY IS NECESSARY. WITH THE SPEED OF CHANGE OF OUR CULTURE, AN OPENNESS TO CHANGE...RATHER AN EMBRACING OF CHANGE AS A CORE VALUE OF THE CHURCH IS VITALLY IMPORTANT. THE RESTART MODEL THAT I’M SHARING WITH YOU IS AN INTERVENTION WE HAVE BEEN USING, AND REFINING, WITH CHURCHES THAT ARE ON THE DOWNSIDE OF THE LIFECYCLE. YOU HAVE SEEN IT ONCE BEFORE. IT IS THE SAME MODEL, WITH SOME CHANGES, THAT I PRESENTED AT THE LEADERSHIP RETREAT A YEAR AGO. BEFORE WE REVIEW THE MODEL, I’D LIKE TO PUT SOME “FLESH” ON THIS PROCESS BY SHOWING YOU A VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH PASTOR TIM STIDHAM WHO IS TAKING NEW HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE IN DYER, INDIANA, THROUGH THE PROCESS. [GO THROUGH THE MODEL] [REFER TO “CONGREGATIONAL STAGES AND CLOSURE ISSUES] BY MIKE LIVINGSTON. CLICK TO NEXT SLIDE (BLANK) Birth Restart Death Lifecycle of a Church
