ACCREDITATION NEW STANDARDS Presentation at All Campus Luncheon 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 by Norma Goldstein

New Standards 7- year instead of 10-year cycle 5 standards instead of 9 Cross departmental, integrated Self study divided into several reports Year 1, Year 3+ visit, Year 5, Year 7+ visit Recursive process based on Core Themes

CORE THEMES Typically 3-5 core themes Aligned with Policy Governance goals Based on the College Mission: We are dedicated to serving the educational, workforce and cultural needs of our diverse community.

A core theme is a major concentration, focus, or area of emphasis within the institution’s mission.

CORE THEME-formal definition It is a manifestation of a fundamental aspect of institutional mission with an overarching common purpose that guides planning for programs and services, development of capacity, and application of resources to fulfill that aspect of the mission.

CORE THEMES & Objectives, etc. Indicators Benchmarks

Objectives: An objective identifies what we are trying to reach in that core theme. It is typically written as a positive statement or goal we are trying to achieve.

ACCOUNTABILITY Indicators Benchmarks Specific ways to measure or assess how we met our objectives Indicators Levels of achievement for our objectives Benchmarks

How do you know that you are fulfilling your mission? Mission Fulfillment… How do you know that you are fulfilling your mission?

LUNCHEON ACTIVITY TODAY! Discuss and annotate one CORE THEME by lunch table. ASSIGNMENT: Revise and/or add to the Core Theme. Revise and/or add to the Objectives of that Core Theme. Turn in all work before you leave today. Make sure your writing is legible and Core Theme identified. Include participants’ names (optional)
