Agenda Leadership News from YOU (Distinguished Leader) General Questions and Answers Chapter 5 Discussion Next class

Envision the Future Visions are about possibilities, about desired futures. Stories from the chapter … What did you like? Imagine the Possibilities Reflect on your Past (Janus Effect) Attend to the present Prospect the Future Feel your passion (Intrinsic motivation) Find a common purpose Listen deeply to others (commitment) Commit to cause Envision the Future Picture it

Strategic Visioning Take back the RED Henry Mintzberg (1994) debunks popular approaches to strategic planning as overly analytic; he hints: in order to be effective, he claims, strategy should involve intuitive glimpses of possibility The anticipatory principle--the development of imaginative capacity to form possible images of future states--suggests that perhaps the most potent vehicle for transforming human systems is our ongoing projection of a future image (vision) Take back the RED

Envision the future of business Find a “new” idea that is out there in the world. Think first about the past Determine what the future will be like Determine how your idea will fit into the future Prepare a short presentation Become a futurist.

Growth Opportunity Share your vision of the future with the class. Present Like a Pro!!

Is this argument RSA? My friend and I are starting a new company and we want to become rich. A study has found that tall people make more money than shorter people. To save money in our organization, we have decided to hire only people who are shorter than average height.

Next Day Chapter 6 – Enlist Others Task: Draw from the techniques in the chapter and ‘enlist’ your friend to do something between now and next class!
