Story of Kidnapping Sometime between the age of 7 and 9 she was kidnapped by the Arab slave trade She was forced to walk 600 miles bare foot to El Obeid in the course of twelve years she was sold 4 times and bought three times, then finally she was given away This experience was so dramatic that it caused her to forget her real name

continued… In 1833 she was bought by the Italian Vice Consul Callisto Legnani He treated her in a loving caring way unlike anyone before They escaped to Italy together in 1844 traveling 400 miles on camel back In Italy she lived in Zianigo for three years then went back to Sudan for 9 months then again came back to italy

Why Did She Become a Saint? I believe she became a saint because she stood up for herself and her want to become catholic even though others wanted her to go to Suakin Also because she never gave up through the tough times in her life and she boomed with Gods grace especially in the daughters of charity. She would comfort the poor and suffering We can be more like her by not being afraid to stand up for our Catholic faith when everyone tells you other wise

Facts Beatified: in May 17, 1992 at St. Peters Basilica by Pope John Paul II Canonized: on October 1, 2000 also at St. Peters Basilica by Pope John Paul II Her feast day is on February 8 Her name Bahkita is Arabic for lucky or fortunate She was venerated in the Roman Catholic church She was Baptized January 9, 1890 and received her Confirmation and the Holy Communion on the same day She has been adopted as the only patron Saint of Sudan

Contributions She spent 42 years in Schio she helped out all over the community she was a cook, and a door keeper During the war people looked up to her and considered her a saint even before she was one and they felt protected by her, there was not one casualty after the war passed Even her last years of life when she was in pain and sickly she was still out doing for others and as cheerful as ever

Connection to the Eucharist She is connected to the eucharist by how after she received her first holy communion she said “here i am daughter of god” an kissed the baptismal font.
