Osslt online – general information Previously eligible students at erindale secondary school will be writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) online earlier in the school year on Oct. 20, 2016. The test will be facilitated in a classroom using technology provided by the school. The OSSLT measures whether or not students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). There is no disadvantage to taking the test early. If successful, the pass will count towards their OSSD. If unsuccessful, students can complete the test again on March 30, 2017. All students can also practice for the literacy test online at www.eqao.com.
Osslt online – october 20, 2016 It is the same format as the previous tests but it is ONLINE There are two online booklets that consist of reading and writing tasks including: information paragraph news report real life narrative multiple choice graphic text short writing tasks dialogue series of supported opinion paragraphs
When will students write? October 20 Morning Session Arrive at 8:00-8:15 Test runs 8:30-11:00 (this includes students elgible for extra time) Lunch Afternoon Session Arrive at 11:15-1130 Test runs 1145-215 (this includes students eligible for extra time)
Who is writing at erindale? A Select group of Students who were previously eligible, were unsuccessful or deferred will be writing the online version of the test
Where will students write? Students writing the osslt online on october 20,2016 will be writing in the library on the computers in the library computer labs Students will not be using their own personal devices
How will students know where they will be writing and when? A letter will be sent home before the test telling students whether they will be writing the test A list will be posted in the guidance office/special education /moderns offices with student numbers Teachers will be calling down individual students to inform them that they have been selected and they will be provided an opportunity to try the test and practice writing online prior to the test date
