Presentation transcript:

2. INTRODUCTION TO KINGSWOOD:   • The UK’s leading provider of residential educational activity courses • 130,000 children every year • Every centre holds Quality Badge – Government-backed initiative, demonstrates high levels of safety and first-class education

3. ARRIVAL:   • Arrive around 3pm on the first day • Staff help unload the bags • Teachers check the coach to make sure everything has been unloaded • Luggage stored safely in luggage bay while everyone has a tour of the centre • Please make sure children bring bags they can carry as they’re responsible for taking their own luggage to the dorms

4. MEETING YOUR GROUP LEADER:   • Time for your child to meet one of the most important people at KW – their GL • They’re point of contact for pupils throughout their stay • Children meet with them at the start of each day and during some activity sessions • But available to help any time

5. CENTRE TOUR:   • GL will give the group a tour round the whole site, making sure they know all the important places – reception, dining room, meeting room, teachers’ retreat, first aid, activity lines, shop • Also see where activities take place

6. ACTIVITIES:   • Activity lines used as meeting point before every activity session – and at mealtimes • Also used as fire lines – we always have fire drill shortly after arrival so everyone knows exactly what to do • Each school to have one or more lines depending on how many students in group • Max 15 students in each line for health and safety reasons – these are the groups pupils will be with for each activity • Wear old clothes with long sleeves and long trousers – instructors will check before every activity. New clothes not a good idea! • Bring bin liners for muddy clothes • Bring something smarter for the evenings • Don’t forget to pack inhalers or any other medical equipment – instructors will check before each session

7. ACCOMODATION:   • After the tour, students take their bags up to dorms • Boys and girls on separate floors, on opposite sides of the building where possible • All bedding provided – everyone makes their own bed • En-suite or communal bathrooms depending on the centre • Teachers’ rooms down the corridor • Students are responsible for their own belongings – no valuables so no mobiles etc. We do our best but can’t guarantee 100% security for valuables • Disposable cameras good idea though – please name them so they don’t get mixed up • Storage on hooks and under beds

9. MEALS:   • Three meals a day, cafeteria style • Choice of hot or cold including at least one vegetarian option and salad bar selection • Yes, sometimes we have chips! • Good healthy food, cooked on the premises by experienced team • Teachers will let us know any special dietary requirements in advance • Juice and water always available during the day

10. BEDTIME:   • Everyone enjoys hot chocolate before bed • Into dorms at 9.30 and lights out around 10pm (suggested times) • <primary only> If child is nervous about going away, can bring cuddly toy or family photo • Instructors in charge during the day, teachers in loco parentis at night, supported by duty manager and first aider

11. SECURITY:   • Surrounding fence • Electronic gates • Key pad entrance • Key-coded access to buildings • 24-hour duty manager in office – and staff on site at all times • Staff CRB checked • All staff wear security badges like this <show badge> and instructors wear Kingswood branded clothing

12. SAFETY AND WELFARE:   • 24/7 first-aid cover and medical room on centre • All instructors have full first-aid training • Local Dr and A&E • You’ll complete medical form before your child comes and school will pass these on to us before arrival • Full risk assessments available on web for each activity and location www.kingswood.co.uk

13. DEPARTURE:   • Children strip the beds and pack belongings • We check for lost property and any forgotten items • Take luggage to baggage area • Two more activities, then lunch • Time to go home around 1pm • GL will be there to say goodbye and see the children off

14. THANK-YOU
