Williamson Elementary Library What is AR? Williamson Elementary Library Nancy Silva - Librarian – 2014-2015

Thank you for taking a part in your child’s literary education. Welcome Thank you for taking a part in your child’s literary education. Goal for today: Have a better understanding of AR. What is it? Why does my child need it? What can I do to help?

AR - What is it? Accelerated Reader is an online reading incentive program used to encourage students to read. Students read a book Take a test Earn points for rewards

AR - What it is not AR is not to replace academic work, to be used as a grade, or to be used as a form of punishment. It should not take up all of their time. Students still need fun: outside play and reading just for enjoyment.

Why do we need it? To motivate struggling readers. To reward students for achieving a goal. To Improve reading levels.

How to help We work as a team: Family, students, teachers Read for pleasure. Look on the school’s website for the AR Home Connect site.

Volunteer in our Library! Volunteers We are always looking for people to come and help with: Putting books on the shelves Reading to students Helping with AR events Volunteer in our Library!

Thank You... I look forward to working with you and your child this year. Together, we can instill a love of learning in our children’s hearts!
