Purpose of a Presentation What did you learn? What do other people need to know about your topic? Should they take action? You must be persuasive Grab the audiences attention Be witty, emotional, creative and enlightening

Power Point Requirements 8-12 slides total 5-8 minutes in length All members develop same number of slides 3-4 slides per member – group of 3 4-5 slides per member- group of 2 8-10 slides per solo group

CREATING It is important to realize that you should not put so much information on each slide. If you put entire paragraphs on each slide then the main points can get buried and you end up just reading the slide for your presentation. This does not make an interesting presentation. When you make the slide you must be sure to include at least three facts and no more than five. You will also need to include a title, a picture and an MLA citation for each slide (you may have more). When you are putting your facts on the slide you need to remember to group the facts in a way that is cohesive and makes sense. If they are random and do not make sense together your presentation will feel scattered and you will lose points. Also have your last name on the slide so I can see who has done what on your presentation

CREATING You want bullet point not paragraphs You need 3-5 facts on each slide with an MLA citation stating where you got each fact The facts should have the same theme and go together and not be random (make a fact family) Each slide should also have a heading and a picture/graph and the last name of the person who is responsible for it.

Required Slides You will make 4 square notes and label each square with a potential google slide heading. As you find information you will want to have in your presentation, you will write it in the appropriate square. You will be required to have the following slides: Title Topic information/History: What is … (definition or explanation of your issue) Solutions: How can this issue be fixed? 3 Reasons and support- ( statistics, graphs, charts, evidence PER SLIDE) Conclusion/Call to action (What can you and your peers do to help fix the issue?)

Potential Slide Topics Topic/History Why is this a problem? Why is it important? Why should people care? How did the issue originate? What are some common misconceptions? Who or what is most affected? Possible Reasons (min. 3) What are the causes? What is the impact (real or possible)? Include researched evidence supporting your reasons such as facts, statistics, graphs, charts, expert opinion, or valid reasoning.

Potential Slide Topic continued Current Actions What are current laws regarding the issue? What are current government actions? What is currently being done to fix it? Who are well-known advocates or victims associated with the issue? Solutions How could the current actions be improved, limited, or made more effective? Do you have a realistic innovative solution? Where could students go to get involved in the solution process?

Google Slide Sharing Everyone log into your school email Have ONE person in each group click on the 9 dots in the upper right hand corner. Click on the SLIDES icon Click in start a new presentation

Google Slide Sharing The rest of your group (and I) will get an email with the slides. Now everyone can work on it at once, concentrating on the slide they are responsible for. It will go much quicker. I will be able to monitor your progress (or lack of it), and write notes pointing out errors or tips You will be able to show your presentation on my laptop (no flash drive needed).
