I John 4:19-21 – Scripture for Today We love because God first loved us. 20 If anyone says, I love God, and hates a brother or sister, he is a liar, because the person who doesn’t love a brother or sister who can be seen can’t love God, who can’t be seen. 21 This commandment we have from him: Those who claim to love God ought to love their brother and sister also.
Questions for Today How do we live this out? Especially in interpersonal conflict situations? What role can we play as a community?
How Do We Live This Out? Through Communication “In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God” – John 1:1 “The conversation is the relationship” – Susan Scott “First seek to understand, then to be understood” – Stephen Covey “You are my question and I am your question, and then there is dialogue; there is nothing else” – Elie Wiesel
Conflict in The Community Matthew 18:15-20 The Message (MSG) 15-17 “If a believer hurts you, go and talk to them—work it out between the two of you. If they listen, you’ve made a friend. If they won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again. If they still won’t listen, tell the church. If they won’t listen to the church, you’ll have to start over from scratch, confront them with the need for repentance, and offer again God’s forgiving love. 18-20 “Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.”
