What is mitosis? The way cells divide to produce more body cells.
11-4 Meiosis. Each organism must inherit a single copy of every gene from each of its “parents.” Gametes are formed by a process that separates the two.
Meiosis. II. What is meiosis? Meiosis is a process in which the number of chromosomes per cell is cut in half through the separation of homologous chromosomes.
Meiosis 10/29/09. What can you tell me about Mitosis?
Reduction of Chromosomes. Mitosis Cell duplication (or reproduction) where one cell creates two genetically identical daughter cells Cellular reproduction,
What are we learning today?
Meiosis Cell division in sex cells that produces gametes containing half the number of chromosomes as a parent’s body cells (somatic cells)
Mitosis/Meiosis How are they different?. The exchange of DNA between the chromatid arms on homologous pairs is called ________________ Crossing over This.

MEIOSIS-Like Mitosis…uhhh…but…not really Know these here words. Sexual v Asexual Reproduction- Gamete- Haploid- Diploid- Homologous pairs- Crossing Over- Independent Assortment-

Mitosis v Meiosis aka…Battle of the -Osis-es Sexual Gametes (animals and plants) Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase…twice! Results in four daughter cells-not identical to parent cells! Crossing over occurs…recombinant chromosomes. New cells w/ ½ normal number of chromosomes (N-haploid). )…reduction division New cells need to combine with another gamete before they’re fully functional. Mitosis Asexual Body cells (occurs in all organisms) Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. Involves duplication of chromosomes. Results in two daughter cells-identical to parent cells! New cells have normal number of chromosomes (2N-diploidNo pairing of homologs. New cells fully functional.
