Technology And Learning Lynet Marie Wesley EDU 620: Meeting Individual Student Needs with Technology Dr. Adriane Wheat January 28, 2019

Welcome to Technology and Learning! Elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages of technology being incorporated into instruction. Explain and demonstrate the three stations: 1.Universal Design for Learning 2.Technology and UDL for All Learners 3.21 st Century Skills and Acquisition & Employability Participants will get the opportunity to explore the world of technology so that they can get an insight on how it can advance teaching and learning for our students.

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning(UDL) UDL teaching method consists of three principles: Multiple means of representation Multiple means of action and expression Multiple means of engagement “UDL principles call for varied and flexible ways to present information and to keep students engaged in learning ” (Edyburn, 2013 ).

Information Maximizes learning for all students by considering their learning abilities, prior knowledge and interests UDL is incorporated into instruction to reach students of all disabilities and needs Third bullet point here Station 1: Universal Design for Learning(UDL) Demonstrate Watch videos on how teachers incorporates UDL into their classrooms Allow participants to use technology tablets/Ipads smartboards slideshows/videos

Station 1: Universal Design for Learning(UDL) Information All students learn differently and special accommodations may apply Students that are hearing impaired can use assistive technology such as laptops to where they can use the software, Skype, which delivers interpreters captioning For my English Language Learners (ELL) or students who struggles with reading, text-to-speech software can be used IPad and laptops can be used for students that learn at their own pace Interaction Open-ended questions Discussions Interactive games and/or videos

Station 2: Technology and UDL for All Learners Mission Statement: Our motive is to educate all students and community members from Pre-K through adulthood on how to use technology to complete globally. We also plan to help prepare them for college or a career in their future by offering them the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program to meet the criteria of the entire student body Belief Statement: We believe that all students are different learners according to their learning abilities. We believe that there is a variety of techniques that can be used to meet the needs of all students. We believe it is important to offer career path programs to create better futures for the students. Goals: Provide lesson plans that uses UDL principles to differentiate instruction Be able to connect education to every aspect of the real world Increase the offerings of CTE programs Use 21 st century skills to think critically, use creative skills, collaborate with peers, and overall improve learning

Course and Program Offerings Agriculture and Natural Resources * Certified Nurse Assistant * Early Childhood Education Program* Food Service * Medical Assistant Technical Writing and Reading Welding * * Denotes CTE study pathways Station 2: Technology and UDL for All Learners

Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisitions and Employability Content Knowledge and 21 st Century themes Learning and Innovation Skills Information Media and Technology Skills Life and Career Skills (Partnership for 21 st Century Skills, n.d.) Technology and 21 st Century in Technical Writing and Reading

Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisitions and Employability In today’s society, most people have become used to the access that technology provides. They fail to correlate the use of technological devices such as tablets and Ipads, to the learning environment: Prepare students for a technology-based society Present information based on students’ learning Allow students to interact globally Students will benefit from the technology in the following ways: Prepare students for their future career paths Improves students engagement and motivation to learn Overcome diversity barriers Students will be responsible for their own learning

Tools IPads/Tablets Laptops SMART boards Interaction Hands-on experiences Text-to-speech Ipads/tablets with learning programs New Technology Efficient Meets the needs of all students Provide options for all students Always learning something new and useful Station 3: 21 st Century Skills Acquisitions and Employability
