Laura Blake DATA Math/ELA Spring st Grade Bulletin Board Math Problem of the Day Weather and Seasons Theme

Math Problem of the Day 3 girls are swimming, 2 more girls come to swim. How many girls in all? 6 boys are playing in the snow, 1 boy goes home. How many boys are left? 5 boys are in the pool and 2 girls are sitting on the pool steps. How many more boys are there than girls? 3 girls are playing in the rain, 4 more girls join them. How many girls are playing in the rain in all?

INSTRUCTIONS Cover Bulletin Board with sky blue/blue paper. Separate board into four sections. A sun, cloud, umbrella, and snowflake and place one into each of the four sections. Place a Velcro strip in each section so every student can attach their answers. Cut out the 4 templates for each student, laminate and attach the opposite side with Velcro and place in a basket for students. Place one math question in each section for students to answer. Allow students to answer questions in any order during the week (4 days only). Students will use the symbol cut outs (sun, cloud, umbrella, or snowflake), which corresponds with the math problem to answer the given question using a dry erase marker. Students will write the appropriate number sentence and solve the problem on one side and write their name on the other side of the cut out. Students will then place their answers (name side showing) in the appropriate box via Velcro (which has been previously attached).

Pre-K–2 Expectations: In pre-K through grade 2 all students should– count with understanding and recognize "how many" in sets of objects; develop a sense of whole numbers and represent and use them in flexible ways, including relating, composing, and decomposing numbers connect number words and numerals to the quantities they represent, using various physical models and representations National Standards Georgia Standards M1N1. Students will estimate, model, compare, order, and represent whole numbers up to 100. a.Represent numbers up to 100 using a variety of models, diagrams, and number sentences. Represent numbers larger than 10 in terms of tens and ones using manipulatives and pictures. b.Correctly count and represent the number of objects in a set using numerals. M1N3. Students will add and subtract numbers less than 100, as well as understand and use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. c.Compose/decompose numbers up to 10 (e. g. 3+5=8, 8=5+2+1). d.Understand a variety of situations to which subtraction may apply; taking away from a set, comparing two sets, and determining how many more or how many less.
