Key VERSE… Luke 19:10; For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Key CHAPTER Key CHAPTER… (15) The Prodigal Son SUBJECT SUBJECT… Jesus, the ideal man. APPEAL APPEAL… that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (24:47)

Greeks Luke wrote primarily for the Greeks. Luke appealed to them by representing Jesus as the ideal, universal man, the perfect expression of reason, beauty and truth. Son of Man Luke traces the ancestry of Jesus back to Adam to show that Christ was truly the Son of Man, the savior and perfecter of all men.

Luke 2:52 Luke 2:52 ; And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. (ESV) Jesus became wise, and he grew strong. God was pleased with him and so were the people. (CEV) And Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people. (MSG)

Luke 2:52 Other passages relate Lukes thoughts… Heb 2:10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. Heb 2:17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Luke traces the human growth of Jesus.

He does not give his name, but Luke is the only person mentioned by early writers as the author. Muratorian Canon (170 A.D.) include the third book of the gospel, according to Luke, the well known physician. Paul refers to him as the beloved physician (Col.4:14 ) Luke was a Gentile, probably a Greek.

His name only appears in NT three times. (Col.4:14; Philemon 24; 2Tim.4:11) He was one of Pauls fellow workers Luke also wrote ACTS Begins where his gospel record ends

Theophilus Theophilus He addresses both Luke and Acts to Theophilus Name means lover of God No other info about addressee Date of writing… Date of writing… Sometime between A.D. While he was with Paul in Caesarea.
