Jesus gives us three parables in Matthew Chapter 25

Today we are going to look at two of them

The Parable Of The 10 Virgins & The Parable Of The Talents (3 Business Men) The Parable Of The 10 Virgins & The Parable Of The Talents (3 Business Men)

Matthew 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

There are three BASIC parts to a Jewish wedding

PART ONE The parents of the children agree on the marriage and establish a dowry

PART TWO The bridegroom, along with his brothers and friends, go to the brides house to claim her as his very own

PART TWO This was usually done in the evening and the bride would be prepared for his coming

PART TWO She would then join the bridegroom and return with him to his home (his fathers house)

PART THREE There would be a huge party that would often last for an entire week. After these events, they would return to their own home.

Matthew 25:2-4 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5 Virgins were FOOLISH : They took lamps with no oil!

5 Virgins were WISE : They took lamps with oil!

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. The bridegroom delayed in coming for the bride, and they all got sleepy and actually dozed off

Matthew 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. The Midnight Call: The Bridegroom Comes!

Matthew 25:7-9 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

They all got up and began working to light their lamps

The problem was – only five of the lamps actually worked!

The 5 foolish women said: Give us some of your oil!

The 5 wise women said: No Way Hose-a

The 5 wise women said: There is not enough for both us and you too!

The 5 wise women said: Go Get Your Own!

So what happened?

Matthew 25: And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

When they got back to the procession, they were already in the fathers house, and the door was shut! THE PARTY HAD STARTED!

The bridegroom said: I DONT KNOW YOU!

Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. THE POINT

We dont know when Jesus is coming again We can and must know that we are born again through Jesus Christ We cannot make other people believe in Jesus Christ. It is their personal choice! It is foolish to wait until the last minute to believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior! Watching And Waiting Doesnt Mean Sitting!

We Are To Be Watching & Working!

Matthew 25: For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

A Talent was a sum of money

In Jesus day, a talent would be equivalent to about 20 years worth of savings

A talent equaled about $500,000 in todays money

Businessman #1 5 talents = $2,500,000 Businessman #2 2 talents = $1,000,000 Businessman #3 1 talent = $500,000 Businessman #1 5 talents = $2,500,000 Businessman #2 2 talents = $1,000,000 Businessman #3 1 talent = $500,000

Matthew 25: Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. DO THE MATH

Businessman #1 Invested diligently & wisely $2.5 million +$2.5 million = $5 million $2.5 million +$2.5 million = $5 million

Matthew 25:18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money. DO THE MATH

Businessman #3 He hid it where nobody could find it

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He took risks and did no work

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He wasted his chances for investing

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He was irresponsible

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He was afraid and lacked faith

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He had very little regard for his master

DO THE MATH Businessman #3 He was a failure!

A lot of Christians are afraid to serve the Lord All Out!

They are afraid to lead and take responsibility

They are afraid to give to Gods work It Scares Them To Death! They are afraid to give to Gods work It Scares Them To Death!

Dow Jones dont hold a candle to God when it comes to being tough on investment returns!

Matthew 25: His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Matthew 25: Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. Matthew 25: And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS! A DAY OF RECKONING THE LORD RETURNS!

Businessman #3 The Lord said he was lazy!

Businessman #3 The Lord rebuked him for his pitiful mismanagement

Businessman #3 He lost everything

Businessman #3 He got nothing!

Businessman #3 No Commendation No Promotion No Vacation! No Commendation No Promotion No Vacation!

WHAT DID I LEARN?

Dont claim you have no gifts Know you will be judged by God according to what he has given you If you dont use it, youll lose it!
