POLISH NATIONAL LEGEND ABOUT WARS AND SAWA 2ak class, Raseiniai Victoras Petkus basic school, Lithuania
There was a long time ago when Poland was covered by an Impassable forest and in the heart of this country at the Vistula River a young fisherman called Wars was living.
He was a hard working and cheerful man so happiness favoured him. He made his boat himself, often went fishing and always came back with some fishes.
Especially he liked to go fishing at nights because it was peaceful everywhere and the river was only lit by a moonlight.
One day when he was fishing among canes, he saw a beautiful girl with long hair who has a body with the fish tail. It was the mermaid who suddenly started singing.
When the fisherman heard her voice, he fell in love with her immediately. Since then he was watching her every night and was listening to her pretty voice. At least he decided to show himself to her.
It turned out that the mermaid loved him as well. Wars asked her to marry him. She agreed and took the name – Sawa. Her agreement made that her fish tail disappeared and she had human legs.
They had a wonderful wedding in the cottage near the Vistula River and lived happily for a long time.
After years around their cottage a small fishing settlement was established which thank to them was named Warszawa ( Warsaw).
And now it is the capital of Poland.
