Data sets we’ll cover today American Community Survey 2010 Census Redistricting (PL 94-171) Shapefiles

American Community Survey Replaces the long form used in previous censuses Continuous sample - 3 million addresses per year 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year estimates Averages over that period of time Greater time period = smaller population base that can be sampled

ACS Sample Populations 1-year samples Areas with populations over 65,000 3-year samples Areas with populations over 20,000 5-year samples All geographic units, down to the block group Comparison of samples: http://www.census.gov/acs/www/guidance_for_data_users/estimates/
