Metamorphic Rock: Rocks that are changed due to heat and pressure.
Contact Metamorphism: Magma or lava heats existing rock and changes it into metamorphic rock.
Often found near plate boundaries. Regional Metamorphism: Change in rocks over a large area due to deep burial, heat and pressure. Often found near plate boundaries.
Types of Metamorphic Rock: Foliated: Rocks that have a layered or banded appearance.
Non-foliated: Rocks that do not have bands or layers. Form where temperature is high, but pressure is not. Quartzite Marble
Parent Rock: What the rock was before heat and pressure changed it. Daughter Rock: The metamorphic rock that results from changes made to the parent rock.
