The Bridge over Libuše Valley „Borovina Railway Bridge „The Bridge of Self-murderes“

1885 – 1886 the railway bridge was built over the valley of the Stařeč stream. It is 165m long and almost 45 m high. It is made of riveted iron construction placed on 4 stony pillars. The stone was taken from a near quarry at Jan´s mill. 2 side pillars are based on the slopes of the valley.

The tonnage test was made on10th and 11th May 1886 The tonnage test was made on10th and 11th May 1886. The bridge was tested with 6 engines and 1 wagon full of bricks for 2 hours. The rail was finished on 27th May 1886. Ing Jarosch was the construction manager. The first ride was accomplished from Zastavka to Okřišky. German soldiers mined the bridge before the end of the World War II. They intended to blow it up. Fortunatelly, it did not happen. The bridge underwent a general repair in June 1956. All the rivet joins were exchanged, a new service foot bridge, security bays and the handrailings were made.

In summer 1987 the bridge was closed for 67 days because of the bridge replacement. It might have been caused by the expectation of the enormous cargo for the new Dukovany Nuclear Power Station. 320 t heavy frame construction was replaced by box girder, which weight was 840 tons. The cost of this replacement was 50 milion crowns. Borovina Bridge is sometimes called Bridge of Selfmurderers, because it is the favourite destination for desperate people, who want to finish their lives. There have been 35 jumps since 1947.
