Questions that build faith Daniel Review Questions that build faith

What is our number one purpose in studying Daniel? To build faith! Daniel gives evidence for a faith that's not blind faith, plus Daniel includes important prophecies of the future that keep us watching, plus Daniel provides an excellent example of how to live in a godless world – how

Dare to be a Daniel! Dare to stand alone! Dare to have a purpose firm! Dare to make it known. Fantastic timely subject ahead of us that has a most interesting story line, that builds faith with its many prophecies that really gives us insights into Jesus’ return plus lots of exhortational points that will help in being in God’s kingdom. How many have heard the song “Dare to be a Daniel” There is so much in this amazing book and with but six weeks that to do it justice is impossible – but this is the adult class and we all are very familiar with this book so our plan is to select those parts that will help to build the faith to dare to be a Daniel. I will be using power point and here I would suggest it would be very useful to consult the following website.

Important sections in the book of Daniel How many have heard the song “Dare to be a Daniel” Dare to be a Daniel, Dare to stand alone! Dare to have a purpose firm! Dare to make it known. There is so much in this amazing book and with but six weeks that to do it justice is impossible – but this is the adult class and we all are very familiar with this book so our plan is to select those parts that will help to build the faith to dare to be a Daniel. To begin I have a couple of slides to establish the background and a couple more to help establish how old this book is and then we are going to jump right in. One thing you will quickly discover is I like to ask questions and here I would suggest it would be very useful to consult the following website. 1 The kingdom of men – Daniel chapters 1&2 2 Trial by fire – Daniel chapters 3&4 3 The handwriting on the wall – Daniel 5&6 4 The daily sacrifice – Daniel chapters 7,8&12 5. The seventy week prophecy –Daniel chapter 9 6. The time of the end – Daniel chapters 10-12

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 1. Give three reasons that support that the book of Daniel was in existence several centuries before Christ's birth. Daniel was originally written part in Hebrew and part in Aramaic, This would place the writing of Daniel after the nation was carried captive to Babylon and before their return some 70 years later. Linguistic evidence of two languages as verified by experts like Montgomery show it was written well before Christ's birth. The Dead Sea Scrolls give hard evidence the book was written before Christ's birth. This evidence was also verified by Carbon 14 dating tests. The LXX translation which includes Daniel was translated well before the birth of Jesus.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 2. Why is it so important to establish when the book of Daniel was written? The prophecies in the book of Daniel are given in so much detail that if they can be proven to have been written before the events transpired, this book becomes a fantastic proof that only God could have inspired it.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 3. Dan.2:35 says that the image is "broken to pieces together". What does this show is yet to happen? If the image is to be destroyed "together", in the latter days, all of these kingdoms must exist "together". (NIV = at the same time”) (NIV) Dan. 2:35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were broken to pieces at the same time and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth. This interpretation is further supported by v.45 when it says that the stone breaks in pieces the iron, brass, clay, silver and gold. Therefore, they all must exist together, to be ground to power together by the stone.

Daniel Chapter 2 What is the memory verse in Daniel 2? 4. Daniel2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. Who are the "kings" in verse 44 and when will this take place? The context is the whole image when it stands all together including its fingers and toes. The kings are their leaders, Psalms 2 describe the toes and Psalm 83 the fingers. The timing is when God will set up His kingdom which we pray for in the Lord's prayer, (Mat.6:9)

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 5. What was the greatest spiritual problem of King Nebuchadnezzar and how real a problem is this today for us? Human pride was his problem. God treated the problem in a most unusual way. Nebuchadnezzar's position made him vulnerable to human pride, however, we can't limit this problem to him, for we all are subject to it. Pride is something that God hates. (Pro. 15:25;16:5; Isa. 2:11) We need to be aware of it, and know how to counter it. This is seen by Daniel's advice to king Nebuchadnezzar in verse 27. Dan.4:27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 6. How long is a "time" and when does the period of seven times in Dan.4:23 begin and end? A "time" is 360 days and seven times is 7 X 360 = 2520 years using the day for a year principle. This began when the tree was cut down in 539 BC and ended when the image begins to stand upon both feet, (539 BC + 2,520 - 1 = 1980 AD). What happened in 1980? In 1980 it began with the Solidarity Union movement and with the help of Pope John Paul II and President Reagan this union movement was used to hasten the dissolution of the USSR, (Soviet Empire) which allowed the image to rise again with both feet.

How do we support a prophetic year is 360 day/yr. instead of 365 day/yr. To support compare Rev. 11:2,3 and 12:6,14 and apply the day for a year principle. Revelation11:2 …for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months (42X30=1260). 3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. The day for year principle is established as follows: NUM 14:34 After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, EZE 4:6 … lie again on thy right side … I have appointed thee each day for a year … LUK 13:32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day shall be perfected.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 7. Who is the Darius of Daniel 6:1 and is he the same Darius as in Daniel 5:31? In Daniel 5:31, Darius is identified as "Darius the Median" and that alone would suggest that we need to discriminate. Further it is thought because of Isa. 45:1 that Daniel 6:1 is Cyrus since God and Daniel works with him and he responds in Daniel 6:26-27. Darius is not a name but a title meaning "The Restrainer". In a recent discovery of a chronicle of Nabonidus from Harran, it refers to "the king of the Medes" and Cyrus as king of the Medes.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 7B Who is the “little horn” in Daniel 7:8 and why isn’t it the same as the “little horn” in Daniel 8:9? The “little horn” in Daniel 7:8 is the Papal power. It was little in military strength. The “little horn” in Daniel 8:9 is the Roman kingdom before it waxed great moving south and east.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 8. Dan.8:8, What was the "little horn" here a symbol of? Horn is a power but here little, physically not ecclesiastically as seen by its mouth and eyes which give it the ability to see and speak throughout the earth. In Daniel 8 this symbol of a “little horn” describes the Roman kingdom which grew into an empire.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 9. What about the vision in Daniel 8:13,14 concerning the daily burnt offering and the 2300 years. The daily burnt offering was the evening and morning offering which was daily done. It was done away by Nebuchadnezzar in 598 BC and again in 168 BC by Antiochus Epiphanes and again by Titus in AD 70. The 2300 years begins in Dan.8:9 with the “him” (Roman Kingdom) which begins to grow to the “South” and “East” in 275 BC. Pyrrhus, ruler of Epirus met the Roman army at the Battle of Beneventum after which Rome was able to move South and East. It is thought the daily burnt offering will be reinstituted 2300 years after 275 BC. (2300-275 -1 =2026 AD.)

Daniel Review Questions that build faith Write out how this can be checked using 7 day weeks and 365 day years. 444 BC to AD 33 = 477 years -1 (because BC zero and AD zero are the same) = 476 years. 476 x 365.24 = 173,855 days. This checks for 62 weeks + 7 weeks = 69 weeks x 7 = 483 years x 360 days/yr. = 173,880 days which is 25 days short however Passover varies from March to April.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 11 Dan. 9:27 – List the abominations (plural) that make desolate? Daniel9:27 … he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations … 8251 "shiqquivts" disgusting, espec. idolatrous. This desolating abomination was first the work of Antiochus Epiphanes who erected an altar to Zeus upon the altar of burnt-offering. “Abominations” = *Antiochus, *the Romans (emperor statues) and the *Moslems (Dome of the Rock) in 691 AD.

Daniel Review Questions that build faith 12. Dan 12:11 is again about the “daily sacrifice”. When do the 1290 years begin and end? Fall of Jerusalem to Babylon 598 BC and ends 1290 years later in 691 AD with the Dome of the Rock on the temple site. When do the 1335 years begin and end? 691 + 1335 = 2026 AD when the daily sacrifices will begin again.
