Read to Self Students will get their independent reading book or will get one from the classroom library, and sit quietly at desks and read.

Listen to Reading Get started right away Listen quietly Ignore distractions (You will be asked to go back to your seat if you are having trouble. Repeat offenders will practice at lunch or after school. ) Stay at the listening station Listen for all but the last 5 minutes Check for understanding by writing responses and reflections Work until you hear the timer go off or are signaled Return materials to the basket. Vocabulary Having time to focus on words is critical to your development as a reader, writer, and communicator With word work, you will work on: Vocabulary Words Practice work with the Vocabulary Words Prefixes, Suffixes and Root Words Add to your knowledge of interesting words Bring index cards to class for this rotation.

Make Vocabulary Flashcards: Write the word on the front. Write the definition of the word on the back. Write a synonym (syn.) and an antonym (ant.) under the definition.

Skill Work After the Meet-with-Teacher Day, you will be working on related assignments, including any of the following: Skills Fluency Comprehension Test-taking strategies Jamestown Comprehension Review

Meet with Teacher Every group will meet with me weekly, but we will still have some whole group instruction as well. Bring the following when you meet with me: writing utensil, notebook, and independent book. With you will work on: Stories and Focus Skills Fluency Comprehension Test-taking strategies

Read to Self Any time you are finished with your work you should be reading independently. There is only ONE rotation of reading; therefore, any extra time should be dedicated to reading.

BOGGLE Every week you will have a weekly Boggle game posted on the board. It is your responsibility to do the Boggle any time you’re done with studying vocabulary, working on skill work, or outside of class. Turn in the weekly Boggle sheet into the BBB when you’ve completed all the blanks or by Friday. Be sure to total your score and make sure you haven’t repeated any words!
