Some basics about Cosmic Muons @ CMS Arun Nayak Disclaimer I am not an expert in Cosmic Physics, But a very beginner. As it is supposed to be an informal Talk, The slides shown here are just a collection of slides from other people’s talk in CMS meetings. The slides are more about physics measurements of Cosmic muons and not about the detector understanding, although it indirectly aims the same.

Study on Angular Resolution Muon selection : 2 Leg Barrel muons (global, STA) f (muon) < 0., same track charge for both leg , # of total track hits >= 25, 15 for upper and Lower legs. The Lower Leg track is propagated to the closest approach to the 1st hit point (inner most point as convention) of the upper Leg track. The difference of the measured angle (f, q, zenith angle) at the 1st hit point are studied. A Nayak
