The Trustees’ 4 Laws for the colony of Georgia

Trustee Rule 1 Restrictions on land ownership & inheritance Each male adult who came on charity received a town lot & 50 acres of land Colonists who paid their way got 50 acres plus 50 acres for each indentured servant they brought, up to 500 acres Land could only be passed on to a male heir My father died, and the rule says I am not an heir to his estate. I don’t think so.

Trustee Rule 2 2) Slavery was banned The trustees felt it would make the colonists lazy

Trustee Rule 3 3) Ban on rum & other types of hard liquor The trustees felt that allowing liquors would interfere with the work the colonists were expected to do. Why work?

There is actually a 4th Trustee Rule No lawyers allowed…. Why do you think this is the case? Colonists can work out their own differences.

Choose a position for your persuasive argument Choose a position for your persuasive argument. Are you for keeping the rules or making changes to the rules?
