Annelids -Annelida means “little rings” -body segments separated by septum Septum = internal wall - some have bristles called setae -have closed circulatory system -have well-developed nervous system (brain) -sexual reproduction, some are hermaphrodites *See Earthworm Anatomy
Class Oligochaeta Class Oligochaeta – Earthworm -Streamlined bodies (p. 697 fig. 27-16) -Few setae -Live in soil or fresh water -Castings - enrich soil, (worm poop)
Class Hirudinea Leeches -external parasites with suckers on each end -medicinal uses (circulation, anti-clotting)
Leeches being bred for medical uses.
Class Polychaeta -includes: sandworms, bloodworms, & relatives Marine worms See p.698 fig.27-18 -includes: sandworms, bloodworms, & relatives -have paired paddlelike appendages with setae
