Ms. Greer 8th Grade Expectations Consequences Rules ELA 2016-2017 How to contact me CLASS MATERIALS Email address andrea.greer@pac.dodea.edu Phone number 243-5165 Class website yms8ela2016.weebly.com Schoology: https://learn.dodea.edu/ Required: Recommended: ☐ YMS Common Binder ☐ Smart Phone or device that connects to 3G/4G ☐ Filler paper ☐ Multiple pencils/pens ☐ One pair of earbuds or ☐ One glue bottle headphones ☐ One chunky eraser ☐ Five or more highlighters ☐ Recreational Reading Book ☐ 12 or more colored pencils ☐ 2 70-page spiral notebooks ☐ Multiple Post-It notes ☐ 1 Composition book ☐ Colored correcting pens ☐ One pair of scissors Grades Room 319 P.R.I.D.E Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check GradeSpeed (GS) on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for EVERY class. The following codes are used in GS: msg (missing): averaged as a zero, but the student may still turn in the assignment abs (absent): the student has the allotted time to complete the assignment I (incomplete): the student needs to complete the assignment 0 (zero): student has ignored multiple opportunities for remediation or turning in late work; the grade is now a zero **Students are graded on a point scale with larger assignments being worth more points. 1. Use middle school appropriate language at all times (in speaking and writing) #tnotthefield 2. Never throw or toss things and always clean up your mess #notyourmom 3. Make smart choices. Devices are only for education #ownyourlearning 4. Keep Ms. Greer HAPPY. P – Prepared: come with supplies, materials, assignments & previous knowledge R – Respect: respect yourself, each other and our environment I – Integrity: Do what is right; ensure all work is your own D - Determination: Not all lessons, tasks, or even peer interactions will be easy. E – Excellence: Go above and beyond in all your efforts Expectations Consequences Rules My goal is that discipline is dealt with in the classroom between the teacher and the student. Students will track their own behavior issues using a classroom Google Form. This provides a record for all parties (teacher, student, and parents when necessary). If problems persist or become troublesome: 1. Parent Involvement: an email is sent to the parent detailing behavior 2. Referral to Administration: a student will be immediately referred to administration for severe behavior problems. (See the YMS Handbook)

Ms. Greer 8 Absentee Policy Late / Incomplete Work 2016-2017 ELA 8 Ms. Greer 2016-2017 Absentee Policy Late / Incomplete Work 2016-2017 * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check what was missed in class with a friend, Schoology/our website, and/or ask me to find any assignments missed. A student has two extra class periods to turn in any work assigned on a day a student was absent. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up during the next seminar. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. Students on approved extended absences must keep up with work while gone. My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed and turned in on-time. Late work will follow Mustin Team policy. Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. If there is an issue with your printer, email me the assignment before school starts on the day that it is due. Use the following format for the subject line: NAME_Please Print Technology * It is my goal to have a technology rich 21st Century classroom experience in Room 319. However, YMS is not equipped with 1-1 laptops, nor do we have an open wifi for students to connect devices to. I do allow students to BYOD (bring your own device). Students may connect to their 3G/4G or hotspots to access sites for educational use. Students caught misusing this privilege will have their device confiscated and may lose the privilege indefinitely. * All students will receive Google accounts through YMS. Students are expected to know how to navigate their Google Drive and be responsible digital citizens in all they do on line. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a paraphrased source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing may receive a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student may be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for Language Arts. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources are available to me on multiple media sources, but that it is my responsibility to pay attention in class and record notes and due dates. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally (to my email) at any time and that printer/computer issues are not an excuse for late work.
