IN THAT DAY

Isa. 4:1-6, “And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.   In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.   And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem:

When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.   And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.   And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.”

TWO DAYS ARE SPOKEN ABOUT The first: (Vs. 1), “And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.” This speaks of the exile and the slaughter of the men. So many killed in battle that seven women will fight for one man!

The Second Day: This speaks of the coming Messiah. The Messiah is thus said to be ‘a root of Jesse,’ (Rom. 11:12; Isa. 11:1, Isa. 11:10). Jesus was the ‘the root and offspring of David,’ (Rev. 22:16). Jer. 23:5, “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.”

I. A DAY OF GLORY AND BEAUTY

“In that day shall the branch of the LORD be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel.”

Glory Luke 2:32, “A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”

Beautiful Rom. 10:15, “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

excellent and comely (Ornament) This also speaks of the Messiah. He will be a branch that bears fruit. Matt. 12:33, “Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.”

Jesus said, “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them” (Matt. 7:20). The fruits of Christ proves His Divinity!

II. A DAY OF RESTORATION

“And it shall come to pass, that he that is left in Zion, and he that remaineth in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, even every one that is written among the living in Jerusalem.”

THE registered book The names of the living were written in a catalogue, or register, of each tribe or family. To be written in that book, or register, meant to be alive, for when a death occurred, the name was stricken out; Exo_32:32; Dan_12:1; Eze_13:9. Exodus 32:32, “Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.”

Dan. 12:1, “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.” Ezek. 13:9, “And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”

Isa. 4:4, 5, “When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.   And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.”

1) Wash away the filth Prov. 30:12, “There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.” 1 Cor. 6:11, “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

2) Purged the blood This is synonymous with the expression “to wash.” It means to purify, to remove, as one removes blood from the hands by washing.

The spirit of judgment Matt. 12:20, “A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.”

THE SPIRIT OF BURNING John 15:6, “If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.”

THE HOLY Shekinah SHALL RETURN Isa 4:5, “And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence.”

This refers to the pillar of cloud that led them during the day, and a pillar of fire that led guided them at night. Exodus 13:21, “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night.”

Zech. 2:5, “For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.”

THIS GUIDING LIGHT IS CHRIST! John 8:12, “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

III. A DAY OF REDEMTION

“And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain.”

The Tabernacle: This was God’s original design for the Hebrews The Tabernacle: This was God’s original design for the Hebrews. They were not to have a permanent place of worship, but a moveable structure.

Jesus Christ is our tabernacle. He is our protector and sustainer. Jer. 16:19, “O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction.”
