Federal Tuition Assistance Pays up to 16 SH of tuition costs, up to a maximum of $250 per semester hour or $167 per quarter hour; $4000/FY; Fees are not covered! The new FTA policy eliminates the one-year wait after AIT/BOLC and the ten-year service requirement to use FTA for a master’s degree. Soldiers must complete Advanced Leaders Course (ALC), Captain’s Career Course (CCC) or Warrant Officer Advanced Course (WOAC) to use FTA towards a master’s degree (*only if you used FTA towards your undergraduate degree). Associate & Bachelor (130 SH), Master (39 SH), Certificate (21 SH), Transition Cert. (21 SH) Undergraduate GPA must be 2.0 after 15 SH (minimum “C”); Graduate level GPA must be 3.0 after 6 SH (minimum “B”) 2 YR ADSO for Officers (active duty); 4 YR ADSO for Officers (TPU/MilTech); All others must finish their FTA funded course prior to ETS or MRD or face recoupment.

GoArmyEd.com Cost Verification- Copy of your bill with your name, the school’s name, and an itemized list of costs with the fees separated from the Tuition. Course Verification-Copy of your semester schedule with your name, start/end dates, SH hours, and course name/number. Degree Plan- Also called a degree audit. It lists all the classes your school requires for that particular degree. It includes transfer credits and credit through military service (JSTs). SH are also listed. Required Documents for submitting TA requests: ALL requests must be submitted and approved prior to the class start date to be funded!

Recent Changes to the GI Bill Forever GI Bill for certain veterans-01JAN2013 Housing allowances are now prorated for reservists called up in the middle of the month. Reservists called to AD under sections 12304 (a) and 12304 (b) after 01AUG2009 are now eligible for the GI Bill. Eligible for payments after 01AUG2018 Only Soldiers who have 6-16 years of service will be eligible to TEB. (Effective in 1 year)

MGIB-Active Duty (Chapter 30) A STIPEND DIRECTLY TO YOU! What is It? A GI Bill Program for Soldiers who serve on Active Duty How Do I Qualify? Have qualifying active duty service on or after 1 July 1985 or AGR service after 29 November 1989 Complete at least two years on Active Duty or AGR (Title 10/32) Complete a mobilization of at least two continuous years (730 days) Contribute $100/month for 12 months What Do I Get? 80% Rate – $1595 / month (Consecutive service of more than 2 years but less than 3 years) 100% Rate - $1994 / month (Consecutive service of more than 3 years) * Can be used simultaneously with FTA for the same course

Serve at least 90 days in a period of qualifying active duty on or after Sep 11, 2001 Qualifying Active Duty service is: Service in any active component Title 10 USC, Sections 688, 12301(a), 12301(d), 12301(g), 12302, 12304 Title 32 AGR Title 32 USC, Section 502(f), in which orders state “In Support of Operation Noble Eagle” between 11 Sep 01 – 31 May 02 Serve in a qualifying duty status for more than 30 days and separate due to a service-connected disability or injury

Housing Stipend - Attending on Campus: Paid directly to the student Must be attending more than half-time Payment is equivalent to BAH for an E-5 w/dependents Payment amount is determined by zip code of institution Prorated based on training time and payment tier Housing Stipend - Attending only Distance Learning/Online Classes: The rate is equal to ½ the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents (full time at 100% tier = $805.50) * Service member and spouse not eligible for stipend while on Active Duty * Children are eligible regardless of the Service member’s duty status

Transfer of Education Benefit (TEB) What Is It? A GI Bill Program that allows Soldiers to transfer their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to spouses/dependents How Do I Qualify? Be in Armed Forces on or after 8/1/09, and Have completed at least 6 years in the Armed Forces, and Not have an adverse action flag (including APFT/ABCP failure), and Agree to serve 4 years from initial date of transfer request Must initiate transfer of benefits while serving in the Armed Forces After retiring or separating, can revoke or modify only existing transferred benefits

Transfer of Education Benefit (TEB) Transfer Process Step 1: Contact the DVA at 1-888-422-4551 (888-GIBILL-1) to determine how many months are available to be transferred Step 2: Complete a DA Form 4836 Extension of Enlistment (if needed) with unit Step 3:Ensure extension and current NGB 23 is uploaded into IPERMS Step 4: Apply to transfer benefits on-line at: https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/milconnect/ or https://www.ebenefits.va.gov/ Follow detailed instructions sent to Enterprise email by GI Bill support team Step 5: Return to milConnect, print approval letter, review Obligation End Date

Benefits of Registered Apprenticeship Excellent training environment for those who prefer to learn on-the-job, and want or need to work full-time. Gives “trade-oriented” Soldiers the ability to utilize their GI Bill benefits. Over 1,100 trades and skills are considered “apprenticeable.” Nearly 16,000 employers nationwide sponsor RA training programs for their employees. Earn a nationally recognized credential. Provides a clear pathway to a long-term career.

GI Bill Payment Rates Set by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Varies depending on the GI Bill benefit used. Decrease over time as the veteran’s wages increase.

Post-9/11 GI Bill, Chapter 33 Payment rates for Chapter 33 are based on percentages of the applicable Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA). The MHA is determined by employer’s zip code. Percentages are as follows: 100% of the applicable MHA during the first 6 months of training 80% of the applicable MHA during the second 6 months of training 60% of the applicable MHA during the third 6 months of training 40% of the applicable MHA during the fourth 6 months of training 20% of the applicable MHA during the remainder of the training The apprentice will also receive up to $83 per month for book and supplies for the duration of the training period

Example # 1 – Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefit: Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefit Percentage: 100% (three or more years of qualifying active duty) Program Duration: 5 years Employer Location: Boston, MA (MHA: $3,012.00) Benefit payment total: $72,288.00 First year = $32,529.60 Second year = $18,072.00 Third year = $7,228.80 Fourth year = $7,228.80 Fifth year = $7,228.80

DANTES Sponsored Exams What Is It? The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education (DANTES) sponsors free college entrance exams as well as high school equivalency exams and college credit equivalency exams to assist Soldiers in their academic pursuits. How Do I Qualify? Be an active drilling member of the Army National Guard What Do I Get? Below are list of tests Soldiers may take; Reimbursement of General Education Development (GED) Entry level exams to Colleges (ACT, SAT) Reimbursement if taken other than with the Education Services Office Reimbursement of entry level exams to Graduate Schools (GMAT, GRE) Reimbursement of the Praxis College credit equivalency exams (CLEP, DSST) How Do I Apply? DANTES Reimbursement Form can be found at: http://www.dantes.doded.mil/examinations/funding-and-reimbursement-eligibility/reimbursement-eligibility.html All DANTES sponsored tests are administered at National Test Centers (NTCs). Refer to the testing program to find the NTC nearest you. Saves time and money!

Joint Services Transcripts Joint Services Transcript (JST): The JST is an academically accepted document approved by ACE to validate a service member's military occupational experience and training along with the corresponding ACE college credit recommendations. The JST has replaced the Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) and the Sailor/Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART). To request a transcript visit the JST Web site at https://jst.doded.mil/ It is at the college’s discretion to award the suggested credit hours listed on your JST.

Loans must remain in an acceptable status in order to be paid: IE: deferment, or paid but not default. Loan payments are made on the 1 year anniversary of contract start date.
