Baggage of Emotional Scars Genesis 11:27-32

Genesis 11:27-28 This is the account of Terah’s family. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth.

Genesis 11:31-32 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (the son of Haran) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, / but they stopped at Haran and settled there. / Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran.

1. Keeps Us From Following God’s Plan

Psalm 73:21-22 Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant. I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you.

2. Poisons Other Relationships In Our Lives

Hebrews 12:15 …Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many others.

3. Breaks Our Fellowship With God

Matthew 6:12,14 Forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors. . . . For if you forgive others when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 …The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds…and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

He (God) heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 He (God) heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

1. Share the hurt.

Psalm 39:2 But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased.

2. Relinquish your right to get even.

Romans 12:19 Never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God, for He has said that He will repay those who deserve it.

3. Refocus on God’s plan for my life.

Job 11:13-16 Put your heart right, reach out to God… then you will be able to lift up your face without blemish. Then all your troubles will fade from your memory, like waters that have passed away and remembered no more.
