Spanish Paths at Bailey Exploratory Spanish is taught to students in the 6th grade with emphasis on building an understanding of the language, learning how to communicate basic information in the language and being able to make an informed decision about taking the language year long in the 7th grade. Spanish I Part A is done in the 7th grade and covers units 1 and 2 of the Spanish I Curriculum. This course is done for high school credit, and is the first year of a two year course. Spanish I Part B is done in the 8th grade. It builds on what was taught in the 7th grade and units 2 and 3 of the Spanish I Curriculum is done at this level. This is the final year of the two year course for high school credit.

ASSESSMENT WEIGHT & GRADES 70% Formal Assessments – Tests, Projects, & CMS Standardized Benchmark 30% Informal Assessments – Homework, Quizzes, Classwork (Note that the weight changes for 4th Qrt for Spanish I and the 2nd semester for Exploratory Spanish) Grading System A = 90% – 100% B = 80% – 89% C = 70% - 79% D = 60% - 69% F = Below 60% Students will be assigned homework that relate to the five language skills – listening, speaking, reading, writing and viewing. I expect the homework, when given, to be completed in a timely manner and turned in when due. If a student does not understand something, I am available to provide extra help and clarity. It is the student’s responsibility to come and see me.

RETAKE POLICY A student who scores less than 80% on a formal assessment may retake the assessment to score up to 80% of the new grade. Remediation sheet required.
