Chinese Regulations Related to LR WPAN The Radio Management Bureau (the regulatory body for radio usage in China) of China Information Department approved the following frequency bands and TX power limitation for the operation of WPAN equipment 430 ~ 432 MHz, 433 ~ 434.79 MHz Transmitting power limit: 10mW (e.i.r.p) Occupied bandwidth: ≤ 400 kHz 779 ~ 787 MHz No requirements for occupied bandwidth The Radio Management Bureau of China Information Department does not object the ISM frequency band for the operation of WPAN equipment 2400 ~ 2483.5 MHz The frequency offset allowed is 75KHz which is equivalent to 31.25ppm (for 2.4GHz) Submission Clint Powell, Kuor-Hsin Chang, Phil Beecher, Henk de Ruijter, Michael Schmidt, Frank Poegel (Freescale, Integration, Atmel)

PHY for 779~787MHz Band 8MHz total bandwidth available In spirit, reuse as much 802.15.4-2006 Optional 902~928MHz band PHY as possible Chip rate: 1000 kchip/sec Modulation: O-QPSK Data rate: 250 kb/sec Symbol rate: 62.5 ksymbol/sec Spreading code: 16-ary quasi-orthogonal 802.15.4-2006 Optional 902~928MHz band PHY reuse could provide 3-4 channels in 8MHz BW (this is yet to be verified) Submission Clint Powell, Kuor-Hsin Chang, Phil Beecher, Henk de Ruijter, Michael Schmidt, Frank Poegel (Freescale, Integration, Atmel)

PHY for 779~787MHz band (cont’d.) Spreading Code Characteristics: Binary codes PN Code 1 is the circular shift of PN Code 0 by 2 PN Code 8 is the complex conjugate of PN Code 0 No DC component Pulse Shaping Filter Simple, effective pulse shaping to meet the PSD requirements in China Submission Clint Powell, Kuor-Hsin Chang, Phil Beecher, Henk de Ruijter, Michael Schmidt, Frank Poegel (Freescale, Integration, Atmel)

MAC for 4c Adopt the PICS of 802.15.4-2006 MAC Retain the frame structure of 802.15.4-2006 Add MAC changes required to support the 4c PHY It is recommend that MAC changes which are beyond the scope of this task group should be submitted to WNG for further consideration Submission Clint Powell, Kuor-Hsin Chang, Phil Beecher, Henk de Ruijter, Michael Schmidt, Frank Poegel (Freescale, Integration, Atmel)

Advantages of This Maximizes reuse of the 802.15.4-2006 standard and avoids reinventing the wheel. Utilizes a known/proven/realizable PHY standard/solution. An IEEE 802.15.4-2006 compliant device could be easily modified to comply with Chinese regulatory and provide more available sources for marketplace. A CWPAN compliant part could be easily incorporate the differences to comply with IEEE802.15.4-2006 and sell to markets outside China. Optional CWPAN MAC enhancements address the needs of the Chinese market.
