Chapter 25 Vibrations and Waves
25 Vibrations and Waves Test. 25 Vibrations and Waves Waves transmit energy through space and time.
Waves can also be reflective and refractive Waves can bounce off of something after striking it. That is a reflection. Sound and light waves can equally.

Waves Transferring Energy. Waves: traveling disturbance that carries energy from one place to another Waves travel through water, but they do not carry.
Energy in Waves. A Wave is… Any disturbance that transmits energy through matter or space. Energy in Waves.
What are waves? Waves = a transfer of energy from one place to another Ex. = a water wave is a disturbance at the surface of the water. Ex. = a seismic.
What is the wavelength? What is the amplitude?.

Wave Frequency and Speed Page 43 of INB

How does the medium effect the speed of a wave? EQ How does the medium effect the speed of a wave?

Frequency The frequency of a wave is the number of wavelengths that pass by a point each second. Frequency is related to how rapidly the object or material producing the wave vibrates. Each vibration of the object produces one wavelength.

Wave Speed Different types of waves travel at different speeds. The same type of waves travel at different speeds in different materials. Temperature also affects the speed at which waves travel.

Wave Speed You can calculate the speed of a wave by multiplying its wavelength and its frequency together. Wave speed = Frequency x Wavelength SEE BOARD !!!!!!!!

Practice Problem

Practice Problems If the frequency of a sound wave is 7.0 Hz, and the sound wave travels through the air at a speed of 350 m/s, what is the wavelength?

1) A sound wave has a frequency of 627 Hz and a wave length of 3. 0 m 1) A sound wave has a frequency of 627 Hz and a wave length of 3.0 m. What is the speed of the wave? 2) A sound traveling at 252 m/s and has a frequency of 126 Hz. What is the wave length? 3) A sound wave is traveling at 4,800 m/s and has a wavelength of 8 m.
