The Jilting of Granny Weatherall 1. What connotations does the name "Weatherall" have within the context of the story? 2. How is the name suited to the protagonist? 3. Cite examples from the story to show that life has not "been too much for her." 4. Identify the following characters and define whether they are related to Granny's past or present- Cornelia, John, Doctor Harry, George, Father Connolly. (Include a discussion of what role each plays in the life of Granny.) 5. What is the significance of Granny's seeing Hapsy again? 6. Where in fact is Hapsy? 7. "She had spent so much time preparing for death there was no need for bringing it up again." Explain how, in light of the story, this is proven not to be true. 8. Why is the jilting so important to Granny? 9. How is the jilting related to the last paragraph of the story? 10. In the story, figurative language is often used to convey Granny's state of mind. For example to Granny "Doctor Harry floated like a balloon around the foot of the bed." Find three other examples of figurative language used to convey state of mind in this stream-of-consciousness narrative.
