Greek Myth Both Norse Myth Pluto/Hades—took Prosperina for his wife (with Zeus’ permission; he follows what his brothers tell him to do) Gods of underworld, in charge of the dead. Both can be deceptive/tricky (Pluto’s pomegranate seed). Both get requests to let dead souls go (Eurydice; Balder…but do not) Hel—half dead/half alive monster; does not follow the other gods’ requests, works to destroy them Zeus (and Kronos/Uranus) Father gods Odin Golden apple stories Punishment of Loki/Prometheus; both tied to a rock and tortured for ages Immortal; live with humans—why? Lifetime of the gods Mortal; live separate from humans—how?
