Presentation By: J’anna Rivers 8th Hour Speech “Nobody” by Jhené Aiko Presentation By: J’anna Rivers 8th Hour Speech

Introduction In the recent years you might have heard popular Songs and Features by Jhene Aiko like “ The Worst” or “Post to Be”. Her musical talent goes beyond her catchy phrases so today I will present to you one her best Songs called “Nobody” off her latest album Trip. This Song can relate to anyone that is going through life situations.

Background Information Jhene Aiko Efuru Chilombo was born on March 16, 1988 and raised in Los Angeles, California. Growing up in a middle class neighborhood she vividly remembers the struggles she endured. Since a young Jhene has let poetry and her music be an outlet. At the young age of twelve she received a deal with Epic Records and later got released at the age of 15 because of her school life. Falling off track a bit she had her Daughter Namiko at 19. Deciding to still fulfill her dreams of becoming a musician she continued to make music and grow as a r&b artist . Jhene released her newest album my favorite on September 22, 2017.

Opinion Statement In my opinion I think “Nobody” is a song that most if not everyone can relate too because it shows real emotions that everyone goes through, this song make you feel as if you're not alone.

Theme The theme of “Nobody” is the struggles of feeling alone and Enduring pain.

Verse One & Explanation Attention is expensive to pay I can't get by on minimum wage Been dealing with this venomous rage Since I was under the age I've been under the influence of pain [Chorus] And I never needed nobody Never needed no one No I don't need nobody, nobody, nobody I don't need no one, I don't need no one In this first verse Jhene is telling us the pain and anger she has felt since a child. Her anger and pain comes from not getting attention and feeling like she has nothing to give or not enough money to buy it. In the Chorus she repeatedly says she wants to be alone to deal with her own pain . Nobody could take her pain away.

Verse Two & Explanation Messing up my chakras again My father is a doctor, I've been talking to him All the stuff I'm taking, could of got it from him I don't have no patience, prolly got it from him Just a product of him Pop one, pop two, pop three, four pills These pains tell me how life should feel Heck yeah, forget you, it's my free will Please don't tell me to chill Jhene being Buddhist she’s saying her chakras (healing techniques) are off balanced because her pain. Her father is a doctor so she been trying to get help (kinda contradicting that she doesn't need anyone) . The things she been taking referencing pain she thinks could have been inherited by her father like her low patience and because she's just like him. As jhene references her pain to pills she's saying the pills will tell her what life really is and relieve her. Saying “forget you” she just telling everyone looking in don't worry or tell her what’s best.

Verse Three & Explanation No one ever listened, no one called me pretty Everybody called me Penny, I think I am worthless I don't have a purpose Who am I enough for? Why we always lose what we work for? Why we hurt more? Why we never see my mother cry? She's so tough for us, poor her [Chorus] She don't need nobody, nobody, nobody She don't need no one, she don't need no one So I don't need nobody, nobody, nobody This verse shows the perception Jhene has of herself growing up and not feeling she has a purpose and she's worthless because of pain, lack of attention and life events . The circle of life is demonstrated in this verse by saying something we all could relate too. The feeling of working so hard for something and losing it. The pain that she is now feeling is unfamiliar because her mother never showed weakness and was always tough for jhene and her siblings.Looking at her mother's situations she feels she can be strong like her without the help from anyone.

Verse Four (Take this) grab my purse with my prescriptions in it (Take this) tiny bursts of optimism in them (Take this) I'm reversing my decision to win (Take this) take this, take this, take (Take this) back to '88 when everything was great Then life had just begun (Take this) it is '89 now, everything is fine now I am only one (Take this) wait for the 2008 summer I'ma be a mother, wow (Take this) 2012 summer, it just got tougher I don't have my brother now Take this, take six, take pics, faces, famous Face it, fake stuff, pain is faithless Verse Four

Verse Four Continued & Eplanation Yes, I am aware I am tripping I'm here in this hell that I don't wanna live in I smoke on my own, I drink on my own I know it's wrong To people I know, they just wanna know what's going on I can't tell a soul, no, I can't tell no one Don't need nothing from no one No, I don't need nobody In Verse four Jhene is talking about finding a solution for her pain, which are prescription drugs. She knows this isnt the best decison and it could possibly reverse her chances to win or overcome this pain. When she says “Take this” shes rembering all the reasons for why shes hurting and is trying to erase them. Coming into her senses she admits shes tripping but still doesnt want help.

Conclusion In conclusion I hoped this song provided you some comfort in knowing life isnt always perfect. Jhene Aiko songs all have a valuable message included its all about applying yourself to something and getting a sense of relief.
