DIRECT AND REPORTED SPEECH

She said (that) she liked coffee. DIRECT SPEECH is the exact words someone said. “I like coffee,” she said. REPORTED SPEECH is the exact meaning of what someone said, but not the exact words. She said (that) she liked coffee.
