English S1 Monday 13 November 2017

Past simple Je gebruikt de past simple om over het verleden (past) te praten. De vorm van de werkwoorden in de past simple is hetzelfde voor alle onderwerpen: I, you, he, she, it, we, you, they. Most regular verbs:  add –ed For example: work -> worked stay -> stayed

Regelmatige werkwoorden, past simple Regular verbs ending in -e:  add –d For example: dive -> dived like -> liked Regular verbs ending in a consonant + vowel + consonant (medeklinker + klinker + medeklinker): double the last consonant +ed stop -> stopped travel -> travelled Regular verbs ending in consonant + -y :  -y becomes -i + add –ed study -> studied marry -> married Regelmatige werkwoorden, past simple

Want & Would like Would like = want, but it is more polite. For example: I would like a can of coke, please. You can also use would like to talk about your dreams and ambitions. For example: I would like to own a hotel one day. After would like comes a noun (zelfstandig naamwoord) or to + a verb (werkwoord). For example: I would like a cup of coffee. (A cup = noun (zelfstandig naamwoord)) I would like to book a room. (to book = verb (werkwoord)) In positive sentences that start with a personal pronoun (I, you, he, etc.) would can become ‘d. For example: He‘d like to go to the theatre.

Could You can use could to make a suggestion. For example: I could look into a last minute hotel in London. We could go to the theatre. Could not = couldn’t For example: I couldn’t find him in the crowd. We couldn’t take the dog with us.

Will You can use the verb (werkwoord) will to say that something will happen in the future. For example: He will study IT. We will be sad when you leave. You can also use will to make a promise. For example: I will book the bus tickets to London. Will you do that? After will comes a verb (werkwoord). For example: I will call you. In positive sentences will, can become ‘ll. For example: I‘ll let you know. Will not = won’t But in short answers, negative sentences and questions you cannot use ‘ll. For example: Yes, I will. No I won’t. I won’t tell anyone, I promise. Will you come with me?

Short answers Is she going home now? Yes, she is. No, she isn’t. Has not = hasn’t, will not = won’t, cannot = can’t Are we done here? Yes, we are. No, we aren't.
