UKS2 Topic: Dinosaurs & Fossils Block E: Ice Age Fossils Session 5 Silhouettes This is an 18th century silhouette. It was made by casting a shadow onto back paper and then drawing around it. The large shadows were then reduced in size using a special invention called a pantograph. © Original resource copyright Hamilton Trust, who give permission for it to be adapted as wished by individual users. We refer you to our warning, at the foot of the block overview, about links to other websites.

Silhouettes This kind of silhouette is made by puppets in a shadow theatre. These are ‘wayang kulit’ puppets from Java.

Silhouettes This is a sun print made using special photosensitive paper. If you place objects on it and put it in sunlight, the sun will make the exposed bits of paper darker and leave a light silhouette.
