Mongols Mongols were nomadic people, who participated in trade with settled people Mongols were a tribal society, they practiced steppe diplomacy, which involved knowledge of tribal and clan structure, often using assassination to accomplish its goals Women had the right to speak in tribal councils

Chinggis Khan The leader credited with organizing the Mongols into an effective force was Chinggis Khan, he was elected the leader in 1206. Chinggis Khan was able to unite individual Mongol clans By the time Chinggis Khan died in 1227, the Mongols controlled an empire that extended from northern China to eastern Persia
