Spoon ring By Hannah Godlove Level 1

1. Get a spoon or fork with a design you like on the handle that is either nickel silver or stainless steel. I got mine from the Goodwill. 2. Cut off the spoon or fork part with a saw blade. Make sure its not too long! 3. File the end so it has round edges.

4. Anneal with a big torch until the metal is red hot (get a helper and use 2 torches if you can). 5.Wait about 4 to 5 minutes for it to cool off. 6.As soon as it is cool enough to touch round the ring on the mandrel starting from the thickest part using a rawhide mallet.

7.Use the breaking pliers to pull the ring tighter 8. Repeat steps 4-7 multiple times Using 2 breaking pliers pull outwards Using 2 breaking pliers pull downward to make the ring smaller

9.Get a separate cup and fill with pickle and let your ring sit in it for 4 to 5 days. Make sure to change the pickle daily! Dont put the pickle back in the pot, since it has ferric contamination. 10.Lastly, Red rouge your ring to make it shiny.

HELPFUL TIPS Use a fairly thin spoon or else it will be very difficult to round Pound your ring into your desired size while it is still kind of hot! If you want an antiqued finish, you can skip the pickling step and just buff it. Black oxidation will remain in the dents.
