1997 This is when animated GIFS begin

History GIF was first established in 1987 Steve Wilhite and a team of programmers from CompuServe developed the file format. Animation was not in the picture for these developers What it's intended use was to take files and make them smaller without taking away any data (Limer, “The GIF is dead”)

2003 Myspace increased the popularity of Gifs

Present day Social media is most likely brought GIFs back (tumblr) Bringing back retro things According to the article: “The Surging Popularity of Gifs in Digital Culture”, Google and other big company are adding features to search for GIFs
