Let the light of Christ shine in our lives Gather The Lord be with you And also with you Let the light of Christ shine in our lives

Engage The Sunday before Easter is called Palm Sunday. It is the day Christians remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. Every tutor group has been given a Palm Cross. Use the cross as a focus for worship … display it in your classroom.

Receive As Jesus came near Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, he sent two disciples ahead with these instructions: "Go to the village there ahead of you; as you go in, you will find a colt tied up that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If someone asks you why you are untying it, tell him that the Master needs it. “ They went on their way and found everything just as Jesus had told them… Continues ...

Receive As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, "Why are you untying it?" "The Master needs it," they answered, and they took the colt to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks over the animal and helped Jesus get on. As he rode on, people spread their cloaks on the road. When he came near Jerusalem, at the place where the road went down the Mount of Olives, the large crowd of his disciples began to thank God and praise him in loud voices for all the great things that they had seen… Continues …

Receive "God bless the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory to God!" From the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 19, verses 28 to 38

Engage Video suggestion … Short film of Jesus’ entry to Jerusalem – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOEQSE7FbJE Some discussion ideas … Why did Jesus use a donkey to enter Jerusalem – why not walk or for all the disciples to ride in carriages or on horses? Why is it important how leaders present themselves in public? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections. Activity suggestion … Make your own ‘Palm Cross’, from a thin strip of paper – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcmeCOf-b4k

Respond [Reflect for a minute on the worship theme and our engagement …] Almighty and everlasting God, who in your tender love towards the human race sent your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ to take upon him our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross: grant that we may follow the example of his patience and humility, and also be made partakers of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen Prayer / reflection technique – Give a summary of the theme and any responses that students may have made, then invite everyone to be still (remind no books open etc – lessen distraction). To pray or reflect on today’s worship. Be quiet for one minute. Then say the prayer …

Go Let us bless the Lord Thanks be to God Go out into the world with the light of Christ Reminder – to bring in at least £1 for Thursday’s “Own Clothes” Day Money raised for Deaf Access, Barnardo’s and Tanzania Appeal
